MAX LAMB - EXERCISES IN SEATING ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO
Max Lamb is a designer who loves building and designing chairs. Some so complex or too expensive to reproduce, that only one exists. The exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago focuses on some of those designs. The material is just as important as the design according to Lamb, the king of the DIY chair. This is a very important exhibit at the institute because it leads us away from the usual exhibits about paintings.
I am all for new exhibit styles, especially at the "Institute," one the most groundbreaking museums in the world. Growing up in Chicago and visiting the museum was a highlight in my youth. Max Lamb has created a wonderful sense of the chair, and has given the audience a chance to do some exploring of their own.
"By focusing on seats, one element of Lamb's practice, this exhibition illuminates his working methods and passion for research, inquiry, and experimentation"
Who knows, maybe you will be inspired to make your very own chair. You can see from this exhibit that Lamb is crazy about chair making. His passionate demeanor is seen thru every curve and cut in the design. These pieces are works of art that belong in a museum and I am glad they have made it there... At the best museum in the world, the Art Institute of Chicago. The exhibit runs through Aug 26, 2018
