Art as Architecture or better yet, "Architecture as Art," has sparked debate in both the architectural world and the art world alike. You have your traditionalists in both fields. There are waves of anti-Gehry fans as they troll the blogs ripping on his wavy-form metal sculptural buildings. Yes, I am one of his defenders on those sites and I am usually in the minority. I believe Gehry is a genius much like Wright and he is just far above his time along with Hadid and Romero.
Each one of these architects are artists and deserve praise from both hats. They all have given something new to the world of fine architecture releasing us from the boredom of square buildings. Each powerhouses in their own rights but excuse me if I am missing a great Architect or artist that crosses genres as there are many.
There are artists in the painting world that use architecture or the civil engineering of a city as their main driving force equally. Together these artists love architecture and make up what we call "Art as Architecture." Whether an artist is creating a 3D scultpure that resembles a building such as the artist/sculptor J.Hinos who uses in his sculptures geometric forms that have an architectural basis or as similar in his custom furniture which is extremely influenced from Frank Lloyd Wright.
What ever the medium that is embraced by the artist or architect, these practices cross paths readily and one influences the other indelibly.
