Rafael Barrios is an artist that stands out amongst the heap of contemporary artists that flood the field today. He is one of the main artists pushed by Galerie Rauchfeld in Paris. His three-dimensional work is superb on many levels. The work, though it is considered hanging sculpture is op-art at its finest. Yes of course this is 3D work so a bit of illusion is revealed right off the bat, however it is stunning and beautifully controlled.

The 3D works have a sense of simplicity yet achieve the less is more effect with the perfect amount of symmetry required to make this art a world class offering. At the LA art fair this year in 2016, Rauchfeld was so bold as to only bring Barrios to the fair. That sort of confidence is what is distilled in Barrios' pieces. Subtle yet powerful shapes that speak of connectivity and a coolness that is serene and addictive.

It is true of Barrios'compositions that makes them nearly paintings in similar quality to Bontecou who refused to admit her works were sculptures. As a result everything was hung like a painting. I truly love this genius and his sculptural wonders and I am happy that galleries in Paris and galleries around the world are taking notice of this artist that is overdue for world-wide success.
