CULVER CITY ART SCENE         ARTS DISTRICT FOCUS : L.A.     12 - 2 -2017

The Culver City Arts District has grown from it's humble beginnings over fifteen years ago to a major force in the LA scene. Blum and Poe were the bricklayers for the foundation of what we see today. Their ample space, cutting edge artists, and location brought focus to a tiny town in LA, Culver City. Culver City was really not that posh though Sony Pictures made their base studio there. Still, Hollywood, DTLA and Beverly Hills was where the action was.

Walter Maciel Gallery leads the pack with ground breaking artists and exhibitions. The recent exhibition of Berlin based artist, Nike Shroeder, has shown Culver City is still a force in LA. Her work was in last year's group exhibit at LAMAG entitled "Skin." Her compositions severely stood out to our magazine, Art Collector World, as we were fortunate to launch a review on that exhibit.

Now, Nike Shroeder is being featured at Walter Maciel Gallery where more of her fine fiber work is being shown. Her fiber pieces are a demonstration of elegance and subtlety and has pushed forward contemporary art to a new plateau. It is a clear example of a shift away from painting as the foremost medium in the art world today. Seeing more of her pieces filling up the rooms was quite impressive. The exhibit entitled Backspace / Delete, will be on display until the end of 2017.
