The sculptures on display at MOCA LA are divine. These archaic works are transformative in power and gesture. They lure you in with their bone color features. On display with Abstract Expressionist's such as Pollock and his wife Lee Krasner, these pieces stand out among the heap of dull sculptures and abstract pieces that flood the market. The Ernst works have formative weight, being of an art-primitive nature, they stay with you. The exhibit shows a blending of styles and periods that display that no art cannot be bounced off one another. From Pop Art to Outsider art to Abstract powerhouses such as Pollock, everything can be in the same room. I don't care how different the works are, they can compliment each other I felt the exhibit was nicely curated. Not smashed together like some exhibit's I have seen in the past. These works are important for the history of art towards a contemporary vision. Are they as cutting edge as today's works? No, but they laid the groundwork for new styles. Pollock broke the chain of how to approach a canvas whether or not he was influenced from other drip artist's he is the most famous one of them all and with good reason. His works beg for the mind to dream within the drips and dashes and to get lost for a while. Krasner is also just as powerful and her pieces seem to be getting just as much attention these days. Seeing Ernst set against these other artist's really sets a defining tone. Powerful sculptures that make you, the viewer a willing participant in a frozen world of contemplation.
