JOHN RUBY         IT'S ALL HERE     1 - 18 -2018
John Ruby is a multidisciplinary artist that hails from the windy city. Ruby uses several processes to complete his profound contemporary work. Using photography, advanced printing and painting, he goes one step beyond the normal definition of an artist. Printing a photo on an already existing painting or reversing the process, there is not any one right way for Ruby to go about it. A little Warhol goes a long way and one wonders is this where Andy would have taken his work had he lived another decade or two. Well, Ruby is making those leaps with Pop-Art, Contemporary Photography, mixed media and then combining all of these with a modern touch. The work is bold and definitely screams today.

Ruby is a master at manipulating the canvas taking the art of multiples to another level. He seamlessly integrates his photography and painting making the audience guess as to which happened first, the chicken or the egg. Ruby has made many breakthroughs with mixed media and combining his multidisciplinary talents to form a cohesive balance.

Some cartoon-like qualities are seen peeking through as well as abstract expressionism making an overture to his compositions. There are many different meanings to his works but a photo of his daughter with a splash or two of paint creates a Zen-like atmosphere that is appealing on numerous levels. Ruby had a stream of exhibits in Los Angeles at D+H Contemporary in 2017 and the Southern California crowd found his works extremely fresh. The LA crowd is no stranger to Pop-Art as that is where it all started some years ago.

John Ruby continues to keep you guessing as to just where he will take you. A piece may start out as being abstract but finish in a dazzling after-image. Some of the works also have a thick impasto despite being printed because of the texture of the paint, giving the work depth.
