OAK PARK ARTS DISTRICT 2015
BY ArtCoWo StreetPress ©  9 - 17 - 15

Oak Park Arts District is a little rough around the edges. To be honest, there is not much there. What I saw was mostly Hair Salons. Everyone knows how art and hair does not work, it killed North Park in San Diego, that and the landlords.

Usually after some time when artists and galleries build an area after painstaking work, the rent goes up, because landlords get greedy. Also when an area becomes hot, salons move in. I didn't see to many galleries, maybe just one, Gallery Pink ,and it was closed during the daytime. I would like to see this District grow and flourish because of Frank Lloyd Wright's enormous presence in the famous town.

I think city officials and the Oak Park powers-at-be need to lead the tourists from Wrights homes to this area. They can do this with a little bit of funding from his Home and Studio tours and from the city itself. Take the Wright Fans down the way to the Arts District and let them buy some art. You can see some one was trying to build the area at one point because of the installations on the street. The fact remains, the bulk of the art in Chicago remains in the city for now.
