OCEAN OF LIGHT : SUBMERGENCE "A SQUIDSOUP PROJECT" SCOTTSDALE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
MAY 8 - September 24, 2017
Squidsoup, is a UK based collective made up of artists, researchers, technologists and designers, has created an installation of light and data at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Squidsoup is Anthony Rowe, Gaz Bushell, Liam Birtles, Chris Bennewith and Oliver Bown. The installation is sponsored by Dorothy Lincoln-Smith.
This complex yet simple data conceptualization is shown thru light strings that change colors, and move in a rhythm. The room is transformed into a never-ending moving light space. Beautiful colors, from brilliant blues to purple, create this dreamscape that is both enticing and elusive.
With soft ambient music, the light show is an interactive experience creating another dimension. We walk into the space only to be enveloped by thousands of beads of light that completely take over our senses. We are but children lost in this Ocean of Light. Looking up, we see light, looking thru the sea, again we see walls of light. Wavering and pulsating, the lights are like a stream of consciousness in which we have become willing participants.
We are fused inside this fantasy world of wonder and yes, we even become the light, as the beams bounce off our skin. Beauty and serenity overcomes the passers by who come in contact with the light that continues to change every second. We take on new colors as we blend with this new environment. We are but light. We adapt to this new chameleon-like habitat. We walk thru the light emerging a new sentient being.
Squidsoup has developed a sanctuary for the soul of wanderers who aren't afraid of diving head first into the light. It will be on view at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art until September 24th, 2017.
