ART COLLECTOR WORLD : JAN CHOBOLITS - XHOBO

JAN CHOBOLITS ©

J
an Chobolits is an artist that has spent a life time devoting himself to the practice of fine art painting. An art student at Charles University in Prague, his skill is extremely developed. The perspective in Jans paintings are first and foremost, evocative. His paintings always have some form of narrative yet abstract. Pulling together a story within a haunting landscape, Chobolits then adds abstraction to illustrate his distant memory.

He tries to hold on to his life in Prague through these paintings. Sometimes sad memories, and sometimes past loves of life in a far distant place. Jan is an artist that does not hold back in his art form. He seeks to tell a story though his medium of choice, painting. He feels that completely abstract art has lost its meaning, so he tries to bring a story though to the two-dimensional canvas. The colors are bold like the fauvists, blurry like the impressionists but still very modern and unique. Influenced from Baroque artists and their ability to move the viewer, Chobolits's art is extremely heartfelt. He is able to transmit thru his art the pain and emotion and then bring this evocation to the viewers consciousness.

Jan's paintings are not small. They range from 8 to 9 feet and give the eye a chance to experience an all-consuming impact. Jan feels comfortable working in this large format. He uses mainly house paints and uses both oil and acrylic, and sometimes mixed media. He stretches and builds his own canvases from painters drop cloths. He is a very prolific artist who never yields to time. Always working and always diligent in his work ethic.

A true inspiration in his work that he inspires other artists around him, teaches them. An educator, mentor, craftsman and artist, Chobolits is a true Renaissance Man. He helps them build canvases and encourages them not to give up. He once told me that he wrestles with the painting, but you the onlooker would never know it, as the paintings are very fluid like a river. Jan Chobolits, along with Dolphin and Hawk Gallery and artist J.Hinos founded the "San Diego Renaissance" art movement in San Diego. A movement to improve the art and culture in San Diego by have weekly art shows and involving local artists and patrons to participate. He is of great importance to San Diego, California and the United States by improving the love of art and art produced on native soil.

A modern day "Da Vinci", Jan explores numerous art forms. I have seen Jan using polaroids of events in time that he is very fond of, or at other times using only the bare remembrance of his past life to help him construct his visions. ART COLLECTOR CALIFORNIA chose Jan to be the first artist featured for the magazine because he embodies everything that is alluring about art and artists. A mad man who paints around the clock to produce beautiful renditions of life once lived in. A foggy and almost lost memory that is brought back to consciousness through the living world of painted canvases and the eyes that embrace them.
