ART COLLECTOR WORLD : BIG BUTTON

Chase Bank, Manhattan

B
ig Button NYC is a site to behold. A redesign of the original button by artist James Biber in 1996, the new button and threads transform Manhattan. The Garment District Alliance made plans in 2022 to remake the original black button. The original location was begging for a redesign because of an old Info-Kiosk that stood out as a sore thumb. People use their smart phones for information these days, so as they say, "out with the old and in with the new."

The new color brings a lot of warmth to the area especially because the new color choice of yellow is a stand out.The large threads are reminiscent of giant alien legs, think "War of the Worlds." The Garment District has millions of visitors every year so the renovation of the button has people loving the vibe. Located at 191 W 39th St in New York, New York, the tourist attraction is one of the best large installations we have seen in years. The new sculpture was built by Local Projects, a design agency in New York.
