ART COLLECTOR WORLD : ANGELA DAVIS EXHIBITION

2 . 13 . 2022 - ZIMMERLI MUSEUM

I
n celebration of Black History Month, Art Collector World is praising one of it's imost important figures, Angela Yvonne Davis. With this celebration comes a ground-breaking exhibit at the Zimmerli Museum; ANGELA DAVIS - SIEZE THE TIME. The exhibition covers a wide range of material from archives, books, magazines, court sketches, videos, music , press photography, writings, and a multitude of artists inspired by Davis and the cause for freedom. An avenue explored in the exhibit is her work in fighting for the "Soledad Brothers, oppression, feminism and prison abolition."

Prison abolition is at the heart of Davis' teachings which is something she has coined the "Prison Industrial Complex." Profit from prison labor and the dark toll imprisoned families endure on society is a never-ending circle, as stated in her book "Are Prisons Obsolete?" The archive was compiled in Oakland, California and curated by Lisbet Tellefsen. Davis has become a sociopolitical icon that has continues to inspire many artists such as Sadie Barnette, Bethany Collins, Juan Sanchez, Yevgeniy Fiks, Coco Fusco, Renee Green, Carrie Schneider and a host of others are also featured. Angela Davis sparked a cultural revolution and to this day she is one of the most iconic figures in the fight for freedom. Looking around the exhibition just shows the socio-political impact she has on life today.
