GRAFFITI IN THE FINE ART WORLD BY ArtCoWo Press © 9 - 17 - 15 Graffiti is now in galleries around the world. Artists that paved the way like Retna and Banksy have made it easy for artists to gain exposure in the gallery system. Once shunned but now a hot trend this art form is nothing new. It is only now getting its just dues in galleries that are picking up the profits from a lucrative side of the business. Not to mention murals being sanctioned by cities and photographers, both amature and professional, taking shots of the wondrous street art on walls around the globe. 2015 and beyond maybe the decade when graffiti in the contemporary market shows its full potential. Few people realize that Basqiuat was a graffiti artist but not a traditional graffiti writer. Even artists such as Neo Rauch and Marco Battaglini have used graffiti within their paintings creating a mash-up of styles. Especially Battaglini, who uses the writing as a main focal point of his work. The fact is that people want to hang something new in their homes not the same old Picasso. Graffiti rather dictates a culture of today. In fact, it is not really new at all. But hanging it in your home is a newer concept that is catching on and spreading like wildfire. |
