WILLIAM GROB LOVE SUCKS
William Grob is a mixed media artist from England that combines photography with painting. Often painting over the initial images, he throws in his comic relief to bring audiences closer to his subject matters. They are fun pieces. Some renderings are Grob's relationship experiences that are quite dear to him but he puts a dramatic twist on the subjects. By weaving a cartoon and pop-art-like quality into the photographic images he alters our perception in a way that is refreshing and substantive.
There is a theme that Grob inter-plays into the work with pop-up bubbles and words that quickly convey his quirky message. A bold statement and laughter that may overtake the audience, Grob is master at manipulating these striking images.
This juxtaposition of black and white photography, with bold color hand painted images, stirs the imagination and a fantasy world is ensued gracefully but with a no nonsense approach. He is an artist that captures the perfect moment and then continues to mangle the image to his liking. Grob creates a palatable experience to the viewer giving us a sense of comedic grace yet with a colorist approach to the final outcome. More than just simple comics, these masterful works are unique unto their own. Perfect pictures that have no rival.
These mixed media creations are the stuff of legends, of ideas and experiences around us. Things that we want to say but don't. But Grob does say these words and gives us visceral images to accompany the dialogue that stays with us well into the night. William Grob is represented by D+H Contemporary in Los Angeles.
