It is extremely rare these days to see a painter balance between abstract and figural work, and as well as blend these two styles, without seeming kitsch. One such artist is Lisette Lugo, who not only combines these two realms, but handles this transition eloquently and with delicate subtleties. Lugo is a full time artist and art teacher that works with disabled children and students with Asperger's, as a result her art incorporates elements of the human experience that is apparent in subject matters. She creates a dialogue between the fantasy realism and abstract expressionist fluidity. This dialogue is opened to the audience in a sort of story telling that is written through pictoral glyphs that convey her message and emotions. It is difficult for an artist to show both a technical ability and still convey deepened emotions, and bring them to the eyes of the viewers, without holding back.

Advanced color theory sharpened with a keen sense of spatial placement makes the work extremely desirable among collectors. An exciting and child-like element makes the work appealing on multiple levels. The viewer is opened up into a fantasy world of horses and butterflies that can represent a multitude of meanings. Hidden objects and animals, Lugo is crafting a visceral tale for the senses. The subjects are juxtaposed against the multilayered levels of paint and both the background and foreground are merged to create a magical mirage.

It is not only that the work is created on an professional level but that the paintings have deep psychological implications that are manifested on canvas. Lugo weaves inside this fantasy world her own personal feelings as she experienced at a young age the loss of her husband. Instead to bottle this great loss, she uses this pain as a great strength and heightened sensibility to add to an art form that can seem over saturated. She however breathes new life into painting causing art historians to not close the chapter on American painters. Instead she stands above the list of new painters. When I first saw Lugo's work I said to myself, how come I do not know this artist?

Well even though we live in the world of internet access for billions of lives, it nevertheless is hard to sometimes weed through the amount of artists that make up the current stream. She is an artist that you will be hearing a lot about in 2016. Her paintings have all the right ingredients to make it a world-class offering as well as bringing her emotions to the forefront of the audiences perception and engrossing them into a spectacle both fantastic and real.
