ZARKO PLAVSIC         INSPIRATION         11.26.2021

Zarko Plavsic is one of the few abstract artists in Montenegro. In a tiny little village far removed from the nearest big city Pod Gorica lies Murino. Though the locals know it well as one of the last stands of WWII. The history runs deep in these powerful hills. Zarko's art leans on a figurative nature but obscured by subtle abstraction just as the mist washes the surrounding mountains. Though the roots of cubism are present, it still remains original in inspiration. Zarko paints the local landscape, from the life-giving River Lim to the imposing Mount Mokra. This landscape art is Zarko's bread and butter though his true passion is abstract art.

It is difficult to survive as an artist in Montenegro let alone anywhere in the world. However Zarko is building a name for himself with serious art collectors like the former US Ambassador Roderick Moore. The local Hotel in Murino purchased and are displaying all of his art in all of the rooms. So things are looking up for Zarko. His abstract figurative art shows depth and restraint. The faces seem saddened by the world around them however they are completely abstract. There is a lot of power and contemplation in these works and I am for one glad I discovered his art on this near desert island. I was moved by his art and the immersive landscape, two forces that intertwine magically.
