Mark di Suvero

S
torm King Art Center in New Windsor New York is one of the most awe-inspiring sculpture parks. With a massive grounds for display, the park almost seems endless. Some stand outs from the park include artists, Mark di Suvero and his "Pyramidian," Louis Nevelson and his "City on the High Mountain," and Arnaldo Pomodoro and his complex sculpture entitled, "The Pietrarubbia Group: il fondamento,l'uso,il rapporto. It was quite the rainy day at Storm King. We were fortunate to be given a ride by the grounds keeper. However it was a fitting title for the park and equally the day, because we were caught in our own tiny storm. The Storm King was definately in attendance.

The Pietrarubbia Group: il fondamento,l'uso,il rapporto

What I liked about the park was once again the space. This allowed for the audience to grasp the immensity of each work. The scuptures were not piled on top of one another as in a closed space or small outdoor parks, as we have seen in the past. Alexander Calder is probably the most famous artist on the grounds. Of course his work is always impressive but he is a bit overplayed at this point. The sculptures were cast against the beautiful terrain and I felt for a moment that all of the artists had worked cohesively to form this wonderful adventure through Storm King.
